Rev. Brown is a graduate of the Ohio State University and holds two Masters degrees from Boston University, where he attended seminary. He is the parent of two adult children, Sarah Bixler, RN at the Cleveland Clinic, and Andrew, a pharmacist in Cleveland.

Rev. Steven K. Brown came to First Church in Mansfield on July 1, 2007 after serving United Methodist Churches in Massachusetts and Ohio since 1976. He most recently served the First UMC of Columbiana from 2000 to 2007.  He is married to the former Linda (Deffinger) Isler Brown, and between them they have five adult children and five small grandchildren
